Project Description

In November 2015 we held a panel on Participatory Theatre in the IETM Budapest Plenary Meeting, organized by the IETM – International network for contemporary performing arts .

In dialogue with the participants and colleagues we explored the role of arts and theatre to promote democracy and participation.

How can theatre help to understand and value democracy and further social change by involving communities or laypeople in the performing arts?

What have we learned from Augusto Boal?

How do projects differ depending on who the initiative comes from: the community or the artist(s)? What if the artist is only a facilitator and what if (s)he is in charge?

What are the basic ethical issues? Where does social work end and art begin?
